Joe O. Barrera is a music composer for film, television, and the concert hall. He has composed music for more than forty television productions as well as for documentaries, commercials (radio & television), industrial videos, and PSAs.
As a composer for the concert halls, Joe has received commissions to compose music for choir and orchestra premiered at North Carolina State University for the Installation of the New Chancellor, from The New Music Society for both a Symphonic Band piece premiered by The United States Army Band (The President’s Band) in Washington D.C., and for a Brass Quintet premiered at Lincoln Center in New York City. He also received commissions from The Jazz Foundation for Big Band Music which was performed by the United States Army Jazz Band, and The Los Angeles Jazz Workshop at Jazz Festivals nationally. Joe has toured as a professional musician performing nationally in large and small concert halls, as well as club venues.
His compositions are published by Neil A. Kjos Music Publishing, LWS Publishing, and Bar Scoring Publications.
Joe has been honored with two Emmy Nominations. He was awarded a Certificate of Achievement Award in music from Billboard Magazine, and is also a 7-time ASCAP Award winner for his music on television productions. Joe has been listed in The Hollywood Reporter’s Who’s Who in Composing (Film & Television Special Music Issue).
Joe also produces young recording artists for record label submissions, and teaches in the Audio Program at The Art Institute Of CA-Los Angeles located in Santa Monica, CA.
He is a member of ASCAP, The Society Of Composers & Lyricists, and The National Academy Of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.
Joe holds a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Music Composition from The University of North Texas.
